10 Reasons to Choose NaProTechnology Over InVitro Fertilization

10 Reasons to Choose NaProTechnology Over InVitro Fertilization

10 Reasons to Choose NaProTechnology Over InVitro Fertilization

For couples that are experiencing infertility, the desire to have a child can be overwhelming. Every month that passes is another missed opportunity. Depression, grief, sadness, and despair eventually set in and at some point most couples become desperate enough to gamble with tens of thousands of dollars on expensive procedures like InVitro Fertilization (IVF) without fully understanding what they are getting themselves into. For the vast majority of couples who try IVF, false hopes turn false, and things that sound too good to be true prove to be so.

Before you decide to spend your precious savings on IVF or any of its latest forms such as Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) you owe it to yourself to find out more about NaProTechnology (NPT), a medically sound and scientifically supported approach to treating the cause of your infertility. "NaPro" means "natural-procreative" and as the name implies, it refers to the application of diagnostic and medical technologies toward achieving pregnancy "the natural way" through intercourse as opposed to a laboratory procedure.

Here are 10 reasons to choose NPT rather than IVF:

1. NaProTechnology Focuses on Disease

If a couple cannot get pregnant, it makes sense that the first thing the doctor must do is to find out why. This is THE goal of the complete NPT program. With IVF, the cause of infertility is not important and in the underlying problem it is completely ignored.

2. Success Rates are Better with NaProTechnology

Recent data from the Pope Paul VI Institute in Omaha, NE, show that NaProTechnology success rates are 1.5 to 3 times better than IVF (23.5% versus 38.4%-81.8%). In a 4 year study of 95 NPT couples who had been trying to conceive for an average of 6.1 years and had 176 failed attempts at an Artificial Reproductive Technique (ART) Boyle[1] reported that there were 123 conceptions. Life table analysis demonstrated increasing success the longer that couples remained in the NPT program with 26.2% pregnant at 12 to 17 months rising to 32.6% at 18-25 months.

3. Destruction of Embryos

An analysis of ART data[2] from 1983 to 1986 demonstrated that the transfer of 1,372 embryos (3.2 per woman) resulted in 81 live births. From this data, it is necessary to create 16.9 living embryos to produce one live birth. The higher reported rates of success for IVF procedures usually means more embryos are being transferred which increases the risk of multiple births.

4. Infanticide: "Selective Reduction"

One of the most objectionable things about IVF is that it can result in a situation where a woman is forced to deal with a dangerously high multiple pregnancy rate. Pregnancy risk increases dramatically with the number of babies in the womb. Frequently, women are compelled to selectively "reduce" (i.e., kill) additional babies in the womb due to unacceptably high pregnancy risk.

5. Natural Sex versus a Laboratory Procedure

In IVF, the sperm and eggs (gametes) are collected through masturbation (male) and harvesting (female) where they meet in a laboratory to form embryos which are then reintroduced into the woman's body. NPT, on the other hand, relies on a natural act of intercourse to achieve pregnancy.

6. NaProTechnology is more cost effective

According to Collins[3], the median cost of one cycle of IVF in the United States in 2001 is $9,226. $20-30,000 expenses are not unheard of, however, because IVF clinics prefer to sell discount packages (multiple cycles) in order to increase success rates and allow for "shared" risk. In comparison, at one medical center in Duarte, CA (Santa Teresita), NPT has been cited as costing approximately $9,290 which includes a physician evaluation, hormone and ultrasound evaluation, and outpatient surgical treatment of infertility.

7. Pregnancy Outcomes

There is growing concern that IVF may have significant adverse effects on the children conceived with this procedure. In a study of birth defects after ICSI and IVF procedures, Hansen et al.[4] reported that ICSI and IVF babies were more than twice as likely to have been diagnosed with a major birth defect by the end of one year of life (8.6% and 9.0%) as compared to naturally conceived babies (4.2%).

8. You could get pregnant again!

Because natural fertility is restored with NPT, these couples are often able to get pregnant again. In the Boyle study[1] of 89 births in women who had failed ART, there were 14 women with 2 live births, and 1 woman with 3 live births. Since IVF does nothing to correct the cause of infertility, there is no benefit toward subsequent pregnancies.

9. What will you have to show for it?

Ironically, in some cases IVF procedures cause additional harm to the female reproductive system in the course of treatment. For example, some IVF clinics will perform surgical removal of a blocked and swollen fallopian tube in order to increase success rates[5]. In these cases, when IVF fails, fallopian tube repair is no longer an option. This approach is contrary to the natural and restorative orientation of the NPT physician and surgeon[6]. NPT is designed to restore (not destroy) reproductive function. If nothing else, NPT couples have had the underlying cause of the problem addressed which often results in better overall health.

10. What happens after you get pregnant?

This is perhaps the most important question. Frequently, couples who pursue IVF have not thought about what happens next. Success equals pregnancy. Unfortunately, ignoring the underlying problem that leads to infertility in the first place can adversely affect the pregnancy and even lead to miscarriage. With NPT, restoring health and fertility begins before conception and continues throughout the pregnancy with the aim of preventing miscarriage and promoting the optimum health of the newborn baby and mother.

9 Tips to Stop Food Cravings and Help You With Your Diet

9 Tips to Stop Food Cravings and Help You With Your Diet

9 Tips to Stop Food Cravings and Help You With Your Diet

Most of us are "regular" people. We don't eat the perfect diet
all the time and have our struggles with food, same as everyone
else. But having an awareness of this fact and knowing a little
bit about our health and food nutrition can help when it comes to
making wise decisions.

Many people struggle with food "cravings." Studies tell us that
it's fairly common for food cravings to happen at certain times,
quite often at around bedtime. Your guard may be down, you may
have had an unusually hard day, and off you go on your
not-so-merry way to find that tasty treat. Fatigue and stress
often combine to take their toll on the best of intentions.

When food cravings are unconstrained, what starts out as a
bedtime snack quickly turns into a full blown feeding
frenzy...not something most of us fully understand or appreciate.
We head to kitchen and every other place where food can hide,
clearing a path as we go.

Most food cravings are not about satisfying a nutritional need or

imbalance. They seem to be more emotionally related, or God
forbid, are caused by plain old gluttony. Exactly why we
over-indulge is not completely understood, however our knowledge
about this subject continues to grow.

Listed below are some thoughts and ideas about food cravings:

- If the food isn't available, you can't eat it! Empty the cookie
jar and keep it that way! Keep healthy food choices on-hand.

- Recognize the feelings and emotions that lead-up to a food
craving. Do you have food cravings when you're bored, lonely, or
stressed? If you can identify a trigger, you can deal with the
emotion that's making you desire a certain food. Try to deal with
the triggers in the best way you can.

- Sometimes, even recognizing that a craving is about to happen
doesn't seem to help. Don't beat yourself-up. There is always
tomorrow. Call a friend, make good use of your support network
and share your feelings with someone.

- Get enough sleep. When you're tired, you're more likely to

crave things.

- Never give-up. When you "slip", press-in, bear-down, get a
grip, do whatever is necessary to re-gain control. Try to
practice restraint most of the time, but don't get legalistic and
un-balanced in your weight loss approach. Think moderation and
not abstinence at all times!

- Understand that self-control and discipline by themselves,
won't cut it! If you depend totally on yourself for control, you
will fail. Forming caring and supportive relationships is
required. If you do not currently have a support network, start
building one TODAY.

- Exercise. It increases feel-good endorphins that cut down on
your cravings. Try to get at least 30 minutes of physical
activity every day.

- Use moderation. Instead of stuffing yourself with every kind of
food hoping that your craving will go away, eat 100 to 200
calories of your "craved" food.

- Substitute with low-fat foods and complex carbs. If you're
hungry for chocolate, eat non-fat chocolate yogurt. Try fig bars
or raisins for a sweet craving.

- Never skip a meal. Eat every three to five hours. Try six
smaller meals or regular meals with nutritious snacks.

- Understand that hunger craving are oftentimes stress related.
Practice other ways to treat chronic stress - a walk in the park,
spiritual connections, a cozy fireplace, baths...all these
stimulate neurochemicals that activate regions of the brain that
stimulate pleasure. Relaxation techniques may work by reducing
the psychological drives on stress output, which can be the root
causes of stress. Bottom line, substitute pleasurable experiences
for comfort foods.

- Beware of certain medications. They can stimulate appetite.
Drugs used for the treatment of depression and bipolar disorder
can be appetite stimulants. Other drugs, both prescription and
over the counter, may influence appetite as well. If you are on a
medication, and troubled by food cravings, discuss this with your
doctor or pharmacist. You may be able to find an alternative that
doesn't send your cravings out of control.

- Distract Yourself. What's that old expression...idle hands are
the devils workshop? Get busy. Do anything other than cave-in to
your desire for food, and keep doing it until the cravings
subside.

- One final thought, take a look inside your refrigerator and
kitchen cabinets and do some general "house cleaning." Throw-out
all that unhealthy stuff that is waiting to sabotage your diet,
and start shopping more wisely. A little forethought and careful
planning will go a long way for improving your chances of
success.

Eat wisely, be happy, and live long!

9 Amazingly Positive Ways TeasAre Healthy For You

by Peggy Sealfon

Investing in your wellbeing is an essential element in nurturing yourself and building resilience and personal strength. For thousands of years the Eastern cultures have regarded tea as the key to health, happiness and wisdom. Clearly, tea affords many benefits and has now been researched more in-depth by western scientists to reveal the spectacular health qualities found in tea. In my book, "Escape From Anxiety--Supercharge With Powerful Strategies From A to Z," I share over 100 techniques for interrupting the patterns of stress and anxiety. Drinking calming tea is one of my recommendations. Here are other benefits:

1. Social aspect

Tea lovers have a special bond. Whether differing widely in age or nationalities or speak different languages, we treasure our magical tea ceremonies and enjoy sharing the experiences with other appreciative tea drinkers. The attraction of being together for a shared experience contributes to our humanity and a sense of personal values. It is especially beneficial when friends assemble to converse, share ideas and exchange niceties. Such socialization contributes to a feeling of connectedness and adds to our longevity. Of course purists identify black, white, green or oolong teas as the real teas but while herbal teas may not have the same extent of healing compounds, they do offer many advantages.

2. Stress-reducing

A stress interrupter can be as simple as taking a time-out to drink a hot cup of tea. Just being able to take a few minutes to relax, sit quietly and have some brewed tea can renew, restore and revitalize. It temporarily removes you from the annoyances or challenges of the day and gives you a break to reflect and to warm up your insides! The experience is nurturing and serves as an important investment in your own wellbeing. Certain teas have particularly calming effect. The herbal tea chamomile, for example, is excellent for quieting the nervous system as it has a high magnesium content so its good for relieving stress and, when taken in the evening, helps encourage a good nights sleep.

3. Health-giving flavonoids

Green, black, oolong and white teas contain polyphenols, antioxidants that repair cells and help fight free radicals that can trigger cancers, osteoporosis, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and more. Enjoy daily cups of tea knowing you are potentially avoiding these diseases and extending your lifespan.

4. Increasing memory and focus

The combination of caffeine and L-Theanine, a naturally-occurring amino acid found in black and green teas, improves memory, concentration and reaction times. It may lower the risk of dementia, Alzheimers, Parkinsons and other neurological disorders as studies have shown that tea acts on brain theta waves to increase attention span and stimulate neural pathways. You might consider drinking tea before a presentation or a meeting to sharpen your brain for better performance.

5. Improving exercise endurance

The antioxidants in green tea extract have been found to increase the bodys ability to burn fat as fuel. This improves muscle endurance and can boost the effects of exercise. Caffeine in green and black teas also contribute and, unlike coffee, there is rarely a crash as the teas antioxidants help absorb the caffeine more evenly without creating major spikes.

6. Slowing the aging process

When under stress, the hormone cortisol is released which speeds up your heart rate, contributes to belly fat and ages your skin faster. A recent study suggests that consuming tea daily may lower cortisol levels more quickly, especially when done daily over six weeks.

7. Assisting in Weight control

Certain varieties of oolong teas are being used as weight loss supplements and has been shown to lower the risk of metabolic syndrome (which can also lead to stroke and diabetes). Although the science isnt yet conclusive, it is true that if you drink a cup of warm tea prior to a meal, you dont eat as much and therefore consume fewer calories. Weight loss is inevitable.

8. Lowering cholesterol

Trendy green tea gets a positive nod for its ability to lower both types of cholesterolserum and LDL. A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition cited that five cups per day were required to provide results.

9. Reducing inflammation

Inflammation triggers many of todays ailments from arthritis to depression. Its been known to cause water retention so you feel bloated and look puffy. Active compounds in tea can lower inflammation levels and just a few cups a day can help you look and feel thinner.

Best Practices
For the utmost benefit, teas should be consumed without sugar or artificial sweeteners and brewed teas are preferable to bottled teas (which typically contain additives). For most black and oolong teas, steep 3-5 minutes. For green teas, steep 2-3 minutes. Herbal teas, especially from floral leaves, can be steeped from 6-10 minutes.

A Japanese Proverb says: If man has no tea in him, he is incapable of understanding truth and beauty. So for better health, wellbeing and enjoyment, invest in those beautiful tea leaves and learn to nurture yourself every day. Youll feel better for it and potentially add quality years to your life!

Consuming anything lower we are tapping into our muscles by then and the weight we are trying to lose would be pulled from our well-deserved muscles. Muscle gains are vital to enable us to take a stab at an attractive define look, so it's vital. Myth # 5: I can have a Cheat Day or Two Every Week

While its alright to treat ourselves occasionally. It's not extremely savvy to have a cheat feast each week. I know we buckled down during the week and felt like we consumed off lots of dairy animals and the weight should begin pouring off. That is not generally the situation. One cheat dinner can set you back a whole week and some of the time months. Cheat dinners can undermine sound instincts. Much the same as any propensity, it takes 21 days to break one. So, in case you're having a cheat feast each week, you're restarting your tracker without fail. Another negative contact with cheat suppers is it can transform into binges which may prompt eating issue. Only one taste of paradise is not worth it, despite any potential benefits, knowing you need to give it in 12 hours or less. So why do this to our bodies and minds? 5 Ways To Get Your Workout Done

Shorter days, darker nights, and holidays are right around the corner. If this means that your workouts are going to go on vacation, make a change to set yourself up for success. Make room in your day, limit your time on Facebook, and try one of these tips to ensure that your workouts get done. I heard some people who even run to work. Why not give it a try.

Schedule It as a Priority

Scheduling a workout into your day creates a more concrete goal, making it more likely that you will do it. Instead of saying Ill go to the gym after work, say Ill go to the gym at 6 PM today. When the time comes, instead of putting the workout off, youll know exactly what you have to do. Keep it on your mind the same way you do your work, family, texts, and email.

More scheduling tips: Plan your routine. Not taking time to figure it out in advance of heading out the door is an opportunity to discourage yourself from going, the same way that not planning your meals ahead of time increases the chances of grabbing something unhealthy. If you can, plan for morning workouts. This way afternoon priorities like happy hour, spending time with family, or a late work day wont get in the way.

Keep Things In Perspective

If youre feeling discouraged, take a minute to connect with your thoughts. Ask yourself why youre feeling discouraged. Are you tired? Does your goal seem unreachable? Also ask yourself why its important to keep going. Why did you start this journey in the first place? What benefits will come from continuing? Focus on these answers and use them to motivate yourself.

Also keep your actual workout in perspective, especially if it seems like a big job. Break it up into pieces the same way that marathon runners break down the 26.2 miles into smaller stretches. Once you do that, conquer one part at a time.

Have A Backup

Excuses come up: its too cold, its too late, Im too tired. Having only one workout option means youre more likely to use the excuse. Having a few means youre more likely to do at least one of them. For example, if your usual routine of lifting at the gym is thwarted by a thunder storm, do a routine with bodyweight exercises at home. If you dont feel like going for a jog, try a workout video or do a workout app. Choose what works best for you!

Forget the All-Or-Nothing Mentality

When another responsibility gets in the way of your workout, use a backup or do a shorter workout. Doing something however small is better than doing nothing. You will still get the benefits of working out and feel like you accomplished your goal. Sneak in some random moves as a silly but effective way of getting movement in during a long day. For example, do a set of squats every time you use the bathroom, designate a wall as the push-up wall and do wall push-ups every time you pass it, or lunge your way to the kitchen for a glass of water.

Improve Your Discipline

The above tips are great for motivation, but motivation comes and goes. Discipline will get you furthest on days where motivation is lacking. Unfortunately, it is one of the hardest things to control. Discipline in one area of your life can translate to other areas though. Something as simple as making your bed each morning or washing the dishes after every meal can set the groundwork for other tasks. Proper nutrition will also help you feel better and more in control.

What is your method of ensuring you get in a workout? Have you tried any of these tips?

5 Tips To Help You Stop Drinking Soda For Good

5 Tips To Help You Stop Drinking Soda For Good

5 Tips To Help You Stop Drinking Soda For Good

The crisp bubbly fizz, sweet taste, and that little caffeine buzz soda gives you can be hard to resist. You know its bad for you, but its hard to quit something that tastes so good. Well, stop drinking it, plain and simple. Soda is damaging your health and preventing you from losing weight more than you know.

Soda drinkers consume an incredible amount of calories every time they knock back a can. These calories arent good either, primarily coming from added sugars. Additionally, you dont get any vitamins, minerals, or good quality carbohydrates from sodas. Youre actually filling your body with chemicals that can lead to tooth decay, diabetes, and poor bone health. And dont think that you can get away with drinking diet soda, even though they dont have any calories. Studies actually have shown that diet soda drinkers are more likely to be obese or overweight. The chemicals in these diet sodas are linked to heart disease and depression, in addition to all the other health risks of regular soda.

So how do you stop drinking soda? When you are conditioned to eating, drinking, or doing something every day of your life, it can be hard to break the habit. If you use a few of these tips below, you should be well on your way to getting soda out of your life.

Tip #1: Count Your Calories

Counting calories can be a great way to keep your waistline in check. If you toss back cans of soda like theyre the cure for cancer, you may be surprised at how many calories you actually consume purely from soda. The best way to do this is to download a calorie counter app, unless you feel like writing it down every time you drink a soda. And dont order sodas when you go out to eat. Those free refills rack up the calories real quick.

Tip #2: Switch to Unsweetened Tea

A lot of people drink soda for caffeine. If you arent a coffee drinker, unsweetened green tea or black tea can be a great source of caffeine. If you arent a tea purist and need a little extra flavor, try mixing in some fresh lemon juice and a little stevia with your tea to sweeten it. Dont forget to stay away from artificial sweeteners!

Tip #3: Drink a Glass of Water Instead

When you feel that desire to drink a soda, drink a glass of water instead. Boredom or stress can sometimes cause people to grab whatever is in plain sight, but these are often unhealthy choices. Pour yourself a glass of water instead of cracking open that can of soda. Chances are soda drinkers dont drink enough water, so drinking water will cut the urge to drink a soda and ensure you are sufficiently hydrated. Flavor your water with fresh lemon juice or other fruit for added flavors and health benefits.

Tip #4: Try Drinking Seltzer Water

Soda drinkers are often addicted to the carbonation. If it is carbonation that you seek, try drinking seltzer water. You can get that bubbly craving without the negatives of soda. Just be sure to avoid the flavored seltzer waters because they have artificial sweeteners, which arent conducive to your health. You can also make your own seltzer water if you have a Soda Stream.

Tip #5: Break the Habit

Getting up from the desk at 1pm and heading to the vending machine for a soda may be something you look forward to or are conditioned to every day at work. Without knowing it, you are rewarding yourself as part of your daily routine. You may not even need the soda, but it is a break from work you have grown accustomed to. Rather than going to get that soda, try packing a lunch, walking out of the building for fresh air, or doing a few desk exercises. These are a few options thatll give you a break from work and help you stop drinking soda.

5 Things You Need to Know About Vitamins for Puppies

Adding a cute little puppy to a home can be an incredibly joyful and fun time. It can also bring about some stress as you worry about if the puppy will be friendly with your child, or if the puppy is getting enough of the right nutrients to be healthy.

One question that may arise is the need for vitamins. Its often a great thing for us to take vitamins, so why wouldnt the same be true for our beloved pups?

Vitamins for Puppies: The Necessary Information

1. Puppy Food is Rich in Vitamins

When choosing a brand of food for your new pup, make sure to seek out the ones specifically made for puppies. Those foods are already balanced and full of good nutrition to keep your puppy healthy and growing strong.

In most cases, this kind of food is all youll ever need for your pup. Even as an adult dog, their food intake is generally all theyll ever need!

Make certain to buy a good brand that goes into detail about the food so that you know exactly the kind of nutrition youre giving your puppy.

2. Too Much is Not Good

It can sometimes feel like the more vitamins you give your pet, the better. It might feel that its a lot like giving vegetables to your kids, the more the merrier, right?

That is not the case with dogs. Too high an intake of most vitamins will actually cause harm to your puppy.

For example, too much calcium can lead to skeletal problems, especially in large breed dogs. So make sure to only give them the necessary dosage!

3. Research All Supplements

If you want to give your puppy an extra dose of a particular kind of vitamin, do proper research before hand. Although you may be busy with all of your parenting responsibilities, take some time to learn about all of the different vitamins and how deficiencies and excessive intake of them can affect your puppy.

You could look through dog multivitamins reviews to give you a good idea of the different types available. Just remember to do the research before you decide to feed it to the pup.

4. Regular Exercise is Another Great Supplement

Good and regular exercise alongside a balanced diet is just as beneficial for your puppy as vitamins.

Try to include exercise for your puppy every day to make certain he grows up strong and healthy. Going for frequent walks with your children and pup in tow, or perhaps having some fun at an off-leash area are good examples to achieve this.

Plus it can be a great way for you and your family to get some extra exercise as well!

5. When in Doubt, Ask a Veterinarian

If you are even the slightest bit uncertain about what to give your puppy or how much is a good dose, ask your local vet. They will be able to walk you through everything you need to know. They might have a list of suggestions for you so that you can relax in knowing that your puppy is getting the best care he deserves.

Its better to be safe than sorry, so dont feel bad about asking for help from a vet!

Enjoy Your Happy and Healthy Puppy!

It can be easy to worry too much about the furry critters in our lives. Just remember that your vet will help you know if you need to add anything to help boost any deficiencies. In the meantime, enjoy your time with your newest family addition!

5 Sources of Glyconutrients in Nature

5 Sources of Glyconutrients in Nature

5 Sources of Glyconutrients in Nature

Glyconutrients are found in nature but are not prevalent in our modern diet due to many factors including green harvesting and wide spread use of pesticides. They are found in plants and foods that many people just do not consume on a regular basis and may not have enough glyconutrients to have a positive impact on the body but they should be considered for general health. Here are some good sources of glyconutrients in foods:

Shitake Mushrooms

Shitake mushrooms have long been known for their health benefits and have been consumed by the Chinese for over 6,000 years. They are a rich source of a glyconutrient called lentinan which has been found to enhance the immune system. In a recent study, Lentinan was given to patients with gastric cancer and as a result reticular fibers grew at tumor sites. Reticular cells are immune cells that have the ability to eat or ingest cancer cells and other cells like bacteria. In addition to these reticular cells there was an increase in T lymphyoctytes resulting in the destruction of cancer cells.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is probably the oldest and most well known "medicinal" plant in the world. Most people know that if you burn your hand or have a scrape you can break the leaf of Aloe Vera and use the gel to help the healing process. For years it was not known what the active ingredient was in Aloe that impacted health. But in the 1980s a PhD by the name of Dr. Bill McAnalley discovered that the active ingredient in Aloe was a sacharride or glyconutrient (sugar) that is found in glycoproteins on the human cell's surface. The primary glyconutrient in Aloe Vera is mannose but there are a couple of others in it that aid in immune system support. Having a Aloe Vera plant in the house is a good idea especially if you have kids playing around the house.

Kelp/Wakame Seaweed

Both of these are rich in fucoidins or fucose. For centuries the Japanese have consumed a seaweed Undaria pinnatifida or Wakame Seaweed and has been considered a staple food for maintaining health. Research is showing that Fucose plays an important role in immune system regulation, blocking bacteria from attaching to cells as well as other functions. It is found in a mother's breast milk and on glycoproteins at the cell's surface. You'll find seaweed in some common everday foods like pudding, cheese or mayonaise but unfortunately Fucose is not active in these foods due to the processing of them. The richest source of Fucose is Undaria pinnatifida or Wakame Seaweed.

Other Sources Echinacea - contains both arabinogalactan and galactose. Arabinogalactan is very important for immune system regulation.

The Larch Tree

This is the most abundant source of arabinogalactan which contains the glyconnutrient galactose. Galactose is found in the chains of glycoproteins and required for normal cell function. Arabinogalactan has been shown to be very beneficial for aiding the digestive system. It acts as a prebiotic food for for intentistinal bacteria which leads to the production of short chain fatty acids (SCFAs). SCFAs are very important to the overall health of the digestive tract. It has also been shown to be beneficial to the immune system. In one study, Arabinogalactan was shown to stop the spreading of tumor cells to the liver and also to stimulate natural killer cells (NK cells).

Fruits and Veggies

Although getting glyconutrients through food is a challenge you may be able to get some through fruits like Rasberries, Blackberries, Boswellia, Spinach, Eggplant, Peas, Green Beans, Okra, Cabbage, and Corn. All contain Xylose, a glyconutrient that is has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. Xylose is also used in some products as a sweetener and replacement for sugar. Unfortunately, there are several glyconutrients that are not commonly found in our modern diet. N-acetylglucosamine, N-acetylneuraminic acid and Mannose (probably the most the important glyconutrient of all) are not readily available in our diets but they are critical for maintaining wellness. That's why supplementation is so important! Begin supplementing your diet with all 8 of these nutrients on a daily basis and see what your body can do. Also, choose a glyconutrient supplement that has all 8 sugars in a stabilized and standardized form. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't eat the foods mentioned here but supplementing your diet can help fill the gaps where our modern diet fails.

5 Healthy Fruits to Eat in Moderation

5 Healthy Fruits to Eat in Moderation

5 Healthy Fruits to Eat in Moderation

Fruits are hardly nutrition villains.

They are in fact uber healthy, naturally sweet, and rich in essential nutrients and antioxidants.

Fruits are frequently recommended by almost all health professionals including nutritionists and dietitians and make a daily appearance in nearly all types of diets including wildly popular military diet.

However, just because fruits are healthy in nature doesnt mean they should all be treated equally.

Some nutritious fruits come at the cost of high calories while others contain barely any calories. If you are on a healthy weight loss diet with a calorie restriction, be sure to check out this list of 5 calorie dense fruits you should eat in moderation.

Lets get to it.

1. Apple

Apples are no doubt a nutritious fruit.

In fact, one study discovered that women who eat at least one apple a day are 28% less likely to develop type 2 diabetes than those who dont (1).

Its a fruit known for its effectiveness in controlling your blood sugar and richness in antioxidants called flavonoids, which are believed to lower the risk of cancer and heart disease.

While the size of your apple matters when pinpointing the correct calorie count, FDA shows one large apple can contain as many as 130 calories. For a small apple, it may be anywhere from 80 to 100 calories per fruit.

While these numbers may not sound overly high, comparing to other fruits like cantaloupe (50 cals / medium) and strawberries (50 cals / 8 medium), you can end up packing in more than double the calories by having a whole apple for a snack.

Its one fruit you may want to keep in mind that their calories are not as low as you think. Especially if you like a tablespoon or two of peanut butter to go with your apple, making half an apple as one serving size may help manage your calorie intake from otherwise a healthy, nutritious snack.

2. Bananas

Its not a secret that bananas are calorie dense. Its also one of the few fruits with a medium glycemic index.

Calories in a banana do vary size to size, but a typical medium banana contains 105 calories. A larger one can contain slightly more - 120 calories.

Though they are higher in calories, many health experts vouch every one of the calories in a banana is worth it.

Thats because bananas are a rich source of potassium offering 422 mg or over 20% of your daily recommended intake in one fruit. Its also a decent source of numerous vitamins and minerals including dietary fiber and vitamin B6 and C.

If you are trying to manage your daily calorie count, serve yourself a half banana at a time.

3. Avocados

Unlike almost all other fruits, avocados are loaded with a whopping 25 to 30 grams of fat each.

Despite that fat being a healthy monounsaturated fat, it naturally brings up the calorie count of this rich and creamy fruit.

In one whole fruit, avocados provide about 275 calories. For a serving size of medium, its about 55 calories.

In the fruit group, avocados are at the highest on its calorie chart.

This is not to say its by any means necessary to ban avocados from your diet. In fact, they should be part of your diet.

Though its undeniable that avocados are one fruit you should probably eat in moderation.

To get the most of avocados nutritional power, add some chunks to your salad as they lower the glycemic index of your overall meal and up your bodys ability to absorb some of the essential nutrients like carotenoids.

4. Mangos

In the U.S., bananas may be the most consumed fruit, but around the world, its the mangos that are quite popular and widely consumed. With its tropical taste that goes with anything from salsas to morning smoothies, its not hard to understand why.

USDA reports, this golden-yellow tropical fruit, mango contains 201 calories. Though a serving size is usually one cup, which provides about 99 calories.

Despite mangoes also known for their high sugar content, containing 46 grams of sugar per fruit, they offer over 20 nutrients that make them a healthy choice.

According to Megan Ware RDN, LC, mangos are linked to reduced risk of colon cancer, better digestion, and improved bone, skin, and nail health.

Despite its high health quality, mangos do contain more calories than others. Be sure to keep the count in mind and eat this fruit in moderation and with mindfulness.

5. Raisins

Raisins are every kids favorite snack choice.

Im certain most of us grew up carrying around a couple of little raisin boxes in our pockets as we headed off to school and to the nearby park.

There is something about nibbling through the red box of raisins that brings everyone a smile and good old childhood memories.

Even though raisins still are a healthy snack we can all enjoy, its good to know that each of the little 1.5 oz boxes of raisins comes with 130 calories.

If you are used to going through a few boxes at a time like me, you may want to reconsider pacing yourself. With just 3 boxes, you can easily pack in as many as 390 calories, which is surprisingly equivalent to 6 Subway Sandwich.

Instead, the same fruit but the fresh version, grapes offer far fewer calories with added benefits of vitamin C, which gets destroyed by the heat in the drying process.

If you are still in favor of raisins, be sure to pick a unsweetened variety with no artificial flavors.

Final Thoughts

There, your list of five fruits to eat in moderation!

These fruits are undoubtedly healthy and nutritious. They often bring far more benefits to your health than the bad. However, as a food source, they do contain calories, and since they are sizable, its good to know their numbers and know what would be an appropriate portion for you.

Despite most fruits containing minimum calories, not all are qualified to be called almost calorie free.

Before you make your meal plan for the week, be sure to check out some of your favorite fruits nutrition profile to stay within your calorie budget, especially if you are trying to lose weight and improve your overall health.

5 Health Benefits of Quail Eggs

Many people do not realize it, but quail eggs offer significant health benefits. In fact, there are 5 main ones to be exact. It might sound pretty weird to eat one of these eggs, but once you learn what types of health benefits they offer, you might not feel quite so skeptical.

As you are reading this, you are probably wondering, "Where in the world would I find a quail egg and who thought to eat something like this in the first place?"

Well, chicken eggs have always been consumed for food, and in recent decades, scientists have discovered how nutritious these are. It was only a matter of time before people started to become curious about other eggs as well.

Many people that are eating quail eggs are actually growing their own in their backyard. It is not hard to do, and you can find plenty of DIY tutorials on the web that will teach you how to build your own quail pen. Many quail keepers state that once you have built the pen, it takes only 10 - 30 minutes a day to maintain it and gather the eggs you are going to eat for that day.

What are the 5 Main Benefits of Quail Eggs?

1. They Have Measurable Nutritional Value

These little eggs are jam-packed with vitamins and minerals. Quail eggs provide significant all around health benefits by supplementing your calcium. They are also chock full of HDL cholesterol (the good cholesterol) instead of LDL (the bad kind.).

They are made up of approximately 13% protein, about 2% more than chicken eggs. They also contain significant amounts of Vitamin A and B2. In fact, it is recommended that you do not consume excess vitamin A if you consume more than 10 quail eggs each day because you can overdose on vitamin A.

2. Consuming Quail Eggs Can Affect a Variety of Body Systems in a Positive Way!

There are many things that quail eggs can do for your body. Some of these things include, providing your body with easily assimilated calcium, boosting your immunity and your calcium, and increasing your hemoglobin levels.

Patients that suffer from asthma and tuberculosis have also found relief from quail eggs. They naturally contain ovomucoid protein which is the kind of protein that you find in antiallery medications. They also contain more calcium and phosphorous than regular eggs as well.

In addition, they help to stimulate sexual prowess by feeding the prostate gland with the substances it needs like proteins, phosphorus, and vitamins. They can help to restore the sexual potency of your youth. Many people are taking questionable drugs and strange herbs from other countries that they know nothing about in order to achieve this, with quail eggs, you can grow your own nutritious medication, and know exactly where ingredients are coming from.

3. They Cleanse and Restore Your Body

Quail eggs are good at removing heavy metals from your body, and taking toxins out of your blood. They also rid your body of liver stones, bladder stones and kidney stones.

4. Quail Eggs Will Not Cause Allergic Reactions

In addition to being basically hypoallergenic, these eggs also do not cause diatheses. In fact, most people use them to fight allergy symptoms. The ovomucoid protein is what does this. Ovomucoid protein is the main ingredient that you will find in many anti-allergy drugs, so you can get it straight from nature with quail eggs. Consistent quail egg consumption can help you to have a strong immune system, make your skin look much better and you will have better overall health. Because your body is cleansed from the inside, you will look radiant on the outside.

5. They Help Your Body to Heal After Trauma

Experts believe that quail eggs can help to speed up recuperation after you have suffered a blood stroke and they can also help to keep your heart muscles strong.
Some patients experienced the healing of ulcers and gastritis after taking quail eggs and some experts believe that the eggs can help to prevent cancer growth and treat diabetes.

The interesting thing about these eggs is that you can eat them raw. There is no risk of salmonella because the quail's body temperature is much higher than that of a chicken. In addition, they cannot become contaminated and infected because they contain a substance called lysozyme. Lysozyme kills bacteria. Many experts recommend that you consume the eggs raw, or boil them briefly for less than 30 seconds so that the yolk remains raw. Sometimes heat from cooking can destroy valuable nutrition.

Since they are so little, you will eat many more of these than regular eggs. You should not eat more than 20 a day, however. Also, if you are eating over 5 quail eggs per day, then you need to cut back on other vitamin A rich foods like carrots and fish oil. Most people eat 3-5 eggs with breakfast daily.

5 Common Myths Regarding Liposuction Surgery

5 Common Myths Regarding Liposuction Surgery

If youre considering liposuction, you need the facts.

Americans spend more than $15 billion on cosmetic procedures each year. Liposuction continues to be the #1 surgical aesthetic procedure in the nation for a reason. But can it give you the results youre looking for? Is it permanent? Is it the answer to unlocking your ideal body?

To find out, check out the top 5 myths about liposuction surgery.

MYTH #1: The Fat Moves In Next Door

This myth has been around since the beginning. The idea is that if you have fat cells removed from your left side, for example, that more fat cells will now accumulate on the lower abdomen instead. It has to go somewhere, right?

Fact

Fat doesnt side step your efforts to block it. In liposuction, fat cells are removed from the body. They dont regenerate somewhere else.

Anytime that you need to store unused energy, that energy is distributed relatively evenly across the available fat cells in the body.

In the case of liposuction, you now have fewer cells in the targeted area. Those cells will store fat like every other cell in your body. There are simply fewer of them.

Because of this, areas on your body that were not treated have more fat cells than the treated area. Untreated areas may appear larger. But thats only because the treated area is smaller.

MYTH #2: Liposuction Surgery Cures Obesity

As the myth goes, you can eat what you want and not exercise. Then just get liposuction to undo the damage.

Fact

Obesity is a complex disorder that may have an underlying medical condition in addition to behavioral, psychological and environmental challenges.

No procedure can cure obesity if the cause of the obesity is not addressed.

MYTH #3: Non-Surgical Liposuction Alternatives Can Achieve Comparable Results

There are many topical sculpting and shaping procedures that claim to be just as good as liposuction surgery. But you deserve the truth.

Fact

Liposuction is the only procedure that gets consistent, trusted and permanent results.

Other procedures require multiple treatments during which youre told to keep getting treatments until you see the results youre looking for. And no one can tell you how many treatments youll need.

You may get in a position where youre not getting significant results. But youve spent so much money that cant quit. You might be so close.

With liposuction, you know exactly what youre getting, how long it will take and what the results will be.

MYTH #4: Liposuction Will Reduce Sagging Skin

Some believe that liposuction will also help tighten the skin.

Fact

Lipo doesnt tighten your skin. Procedures like a face lift or tummy tuck do that. You may be able to get these procedures at the same time though.

MYTH #5: Lipo Will Give You a 6 Pack

A common misconception is that underneath the fat, you have a toned and defined body.

Fact

It could be true. But more than likely, once you have those extra fat cells removed youll need to work on any definition you want to achieve with nutrition and exercise.

The good news is, that once you have the procedure, you can actually see the results of all that hard work.

Conclusion

If youre on the fence about liposuction surgery, know that its helped a great many people get permanent, consistent and desired results. Like all cosmetic procedures, you should consider your own circumstances and why you want the procedure.

Liposuction can dramatically change the way you look and feel, but ultimately its all about loving yourself.

5 Common Foods That Cause Joint Pain

There are hundreds of possible contributing factors to joint pain. Normally, people tend to focus primarily on age or strenuous exercise as the cause. But clinical findings have revealed that there are as many different types of foods that cause joint pain. Joint pain makes living really tough, and makes it almost impossible for someone to perform his daily chores comfortably.

Chronically inflamed joints lack stability, strength and motion leading to weakness and disability. Therefore, determining and successfully eliminating foods that cause joint pain can help prevent this disturbing illness. Below are some of the foods that have been medically proven to cause joint pain.

1. Dairy

Dairy is very rich in unnatural hormones and lacks good digestive enzymes. When it comes to joint pain, the numerous steroids and antibodies given to cows become the triggers. You should avoid any packaged food that contains milk. Too much lactic acid, butter, whey, cheese, just to mention a few, is not good for human health as the toxins they carry can build up in the body, creating in part joint problems.

2. Meat

Read meat, in particular, is one of the foods that cause joint pain. Consuming meat from animals that are fed on antibiotics, corn diet, or hormones has to be avoided. Instead, look into organically raised alternatives. It is also advised that organ meats such as kidneys, brains, hearts, livers, tongue and testicles should be avoided. These foods are high in purines and can lead to very high levels of uric acid in the body. Other nontraditional meats such as mince-meats, broths, bouillons and meat extracts also contain high levels of purines and should be avoided.

3. Sugars and Refined Carbs

Among the foods that cause joint pain are sugars and refined carbs. High amounts of sugar in your diet will result in an increased amount of AGEs - advanced glycation end-products. An AGE is a toxin that often appears when foods get grilled, heated, pasteurized, or fried. When AGEs concentration in the body exceeds that optimum level, they break certain proteins. The body reacts to this eventuality by trying to break down the AGEs apart using cytokines - the inflammatory messengers, which then result in joint pain.

4. Nightshade Vegetables

Nightshade vegetables such as tomatoes, bell peppers, hot peppers, paprika, potatoes, eggplant, and ingredients of some hot sauces are believed to be among the foods that cause joint pain. This is so because these vegetables contain an alkaloid known as Solanine that has the potential to build up calcium deposits in body tissues, thereby, causing arthritic pain and joint stiffness.

5. Soft Drinks

Soft drinks are rich in sugar and artificial sweeteners. The body cannot properly digest these artificial sweeteners. With time, they accumulate and become toxic making them one of the notorious foods that cause joint pain. New studies show that drinking too much soda increases the progression of osteoarthritis, especially in men. It is believed that the chemicals in soft drinks leach calcium, a nutrient which is very essential for joint health, from the body.

The most important step to a healthier life is the change to a healthy diet. Get more information from the free copy of my e-book to make better choices!

4 Excellent Cycling Nutrition sources

Cycling, like any other form of physical exercise, requires you to constantly fuel your body with the right foods and nutrients to keep you going. As you exercise your muscles during a workout, they are put under pressure and your muscle tissues will need to be repaired over time. The way you do this is to consume the right foods that will help to boost your recovery so that your body will be able to function effectively during the next workout session. You will also need to consume the right nutrition so your body will be at maximum performance during your cycling session, which can make a huge difference. Here, I will outline four nutrition sources that you can start using today to boost your performance and help with speedy recoveries after workout:

Nuts are a great source of energy for when you are out cycling. Whether you choose peanuts, almonds or cashews, you are sure to experience an almost instant energy boost which will be very useful for when out on the trails. Consuming nuts can be very good for cardiovascular health and some have shown properties which reduce the risk of prostate and breast cancer. In addition, nuts are so easy to carry that you can consume them anywhere; keep some at your desk to consume as a light snack at the office or carry a small pouch to consume when cycling.

Eggs one of the best sources of protein you can find will be found in eggs; one egg contains approximately five to six grams of protein. Consume one egg per day and see an increase in your protein intake which will be extremely helpful in muscle tissue recovery and may reduce muscle degeneration. In addition, eggs are known to carry many other benefits such as improved eye health and contain vitamins A, B5 and B12.
Energy Drinks When it comes to energy drinks, there are many options out there from various producers. I do not always recommend the use of energy drinks and I would advise that you do not become fully dependent on them. However, an energy drink can give you that quick spike of energy needed to get through that cycling session or workout at the gym. The caffeine intake you will have from energy drinks are known to help boost reaction, reduce fatigue and increase short term memories, among others. Whichever brand you choose, pick up a good energy drink before or during your cycling session and experience the kick in energy that will boost your workout.
Water In my opinion, the most important thing on your list of nutrition should be water. Thats right, this simple yet often overlooked liquid is just as important as your other nutrition sources. Water helps to keep your body hydrated during your cycling session, which will help to reduce fatigue and also help to boost recovery time. Make it a practice to carry a bottle of water with you during all your cycling sessions.
That is my take on four basic nutrition sources you can start using today to enhance your cycling sessions and reduce recovery time.

3 Easy Steps to DeliciousHome MadeYogurt

Making yogurt at home is considered a complex job by most people. "It's a lot of hassle!" reflects Andra, a big fan of yogurt, who would love to make her own but is not sure how...

Even after a lot of work, it still turns out sour, watery or runny -- something that you were not expecting in the beginning. To make things worse, it sometimes tastes so weird that you can even feel the metallic taste of the pot it's made in. "It just takes away the joy of making something as nutritious and delicious as yogurt." She sadly concludes.

This makes you turn to store-bought yogurt instead which tastes really well as compared to what you can make at home. But then you are unknowingly compromising on the effects it may have on your health. It contains sugars, artificial sweeteners, colors, flavors and thickeners, likegelatin (glue made from animal bones), pectin (a bio-polymer acid, lab made ingredient)andpowdered milk. To increase shelf life, it is heat processed which often destroys live bacterial cultures. In short, almost all the healthy, nutritious stuff is processed OUT!

Believe it or not, the secret to making thick, creamy and delicious yogurt lies in the kind of pot used. The conventional metal pots don't let excess water filter out which then calls for straining. Using a pot made of a semi-porous material lets excess water evaporate leaving the yogurt thick and creamy and altogether eliminating the tedious process of straining.

For this reason, I personally use a pure-clay pot -- as it is not only microscopically porous but is also, naturally inert, i.e., it is free from chemicals or metal toxins. So, the natural taste of yogurt is not altered and all you get is thick and delicious home-made yogurt.

Making yogurt in these pots is very easy: Just three steps involved, all you need is milk (raw or pasteurized), live culture (left over yogurt from previous batch), and a pure-clay pot. When making for the first time, you can also use plain whole milk yogurt from the store for the culture, just make sure it has live-cultures (you can see that mentioned in the ingredient list).

Step 1:

Heat the milk: Pour milk into your pot and set it on the stove top. Start the stove on low and in 5 minutes increase to medium. In about 30 minutes, you should see tiny bubbles forming on the surface. When at least a quarter of the top surface is covered in bubbles, the milk has reached temperature, turn stove off. [There's no need to insert a metal or plastic temp gauge, this indicator is reliable and sufficient.*]

Step 2:

Add the live-cultures:Open lid and let the milk cool a bit. Again, no need for a thermometer with clean hands put your little finger in the milk and if you can hold it there for 5 seconds, the milk is ready for the culture. If you can't hold your finger in for 5 seconds, wait some more. When ready, add the culture to the milk and briefly stir it in.

Step 3:

Set to incubate: Close lid and set the pot in the oven for about 6-8 hours. Unlike other pots, a pure-clay pot is a great heat retainer, so you dont need to turn the oven on. Just leave the light on and your thick, delicious yogurt will be ready.

Take the pot out of the oven and let it sit outside at room temperature for about 30 minutes. Then refrigerate and serve chilled. There is no need to add any additives, thickeners or straining... the pot does all the work!

So, you can see that the process is pretty simple and the key role is played by the pure-clay pot. You can get pure-clay pots in the USA from Miriams Earthen Cookware, they are known for making all their cookware from this 100% non-toxic, all-natural raw material.

There are many health benefits to consuming homemade yogurt (without the processing and storing in plastic!). It is a rich source of essential minerals like Zinc (for cell growth and repair), Calcium (for healthy bones), Phosphorus (works with Calcium to enhance bone strength and growth) and Potassium (for proper functioning of muscles). It is also a great source of multiple B vitamins like Riboflavin or Vitamin B2, B8, B1 and B5, and also a rich source of Thiamin and Foliate.

Now that you know how easy it is to make this delicious and healthy recipe at home, go try your hands on your own home-made yogurt and enjoy healthy cooking!

*Tip: The reason I suggest against checking with thermometer is I've seen inserting a thermometer somehow disturbs the setting of the milk and its eventual culturing, the "bubbles-on-the-surface" indicator is more than adequate.

Are Sugar Cravings a Hormonal Imbalance

Are Sugar Cravings a Hormonal Imbalance

Are Sugar Cravings a Hormonal Imbalance

Many people who are overweight or obese also struggle with the added stress of not feeling like they should be eating the foods that they crave. Added to this stress is the feeling that they should be in control and should have the power to resist temptation to ignore their powerful cravings for sweets and other "bad" foods. Social stigmas and self-blame are added burdens in the complex obesity problem.

Recent research shows, however, that sugar cravings are not simply an overwhelming lack of willpower. Many current scientific studies show that they body craves sugar that it does not need for energy as a result of an imbalance in the vital hormones. These hormones regulate the processing and storage of energy and signal us to either feel satisfied or eat more energy-producing foods. Do you crave foods even though you know that they may be contributing to you being overweight? You're not alone. This new research may help you understand why it may not totally be your fault. So don't be so hard on yourself. For many, if leptin resistance is present, which is the case on nearly all forms of obesity and many who are overweight, you are set up to fail from the start. Sheer willpower won't be able to overcome these powerful hormonal signals.

Leptin is a hormone that works in the hypothalamus of the brain, controlling the use of energy in the body and the feelings of satiety or fullness after eating. Researchers have discovered that, when another body chemical known as PTP1 B is produced in excess, it prevents leptin from entering the brain to reach the hypothalamus and essentially renders it useless. This situation is known as leptin resistance and it is commonly found in obese individuals.

Sugars are the body's primary source of quick energy and without leptin to regulate their use, they are quickly stored as fat. Until leptin is once again able to reach the hypothalamus and normal functioning resumes, the body will continue to crave the sugar that it feels that it needs for energy. In actuality, those sugars are unnecessary and help to compound the obesity problem, but without leptin reaching the hypothalamus, the brain never gets that signal.

Hormones such as leptin are powerful regulators of normal body functions and also of emotions such as moods and desires. The feelings of anxiety, depression and irritability that are experienced by many people at various points in their lives are often related to hormonal balances in the body. It is no wonder, then, that the current research continues to show the connection between sugar cravings and problems with leptin signaling in the body.
